If you were on the mailing list for the print newsletter - you probably did NOT receive Issue 1, in August. That's because we wanted to test the first issue out on a smaller group. However, you will soon be able to see the first issue in our eZine Archives. (Or request that issue if you want it sent to you!) Now that we've seen that mailing the eZine works, we will automatically put you on the mailing list. Since we're still new to this eZine format, please contact Jean at
JeanZartner@Selfnurture.com if you find typos, links that don't work, or other problems. Thanks.
If for any reason you do NOT want to receive the eZine (knocking me on my downside!), REPLY and put UNSUBSCRIBE in the Subject line.
If however, you enjoy the eZine and want to share it - please forward it to single friends - and others - who want to learn to enjoy their lives more.
If you are receiving this issue as a forward, and would like your own FREE subscription, please put SUBSCRIBE in the Subject line of an eMail and mailto:JeanZartner@Selfnurture.com. Also, (just for our curiosity) please tell us what city you live in or near. Thanks.
Seeing double? If you received more than one eZine, we apologize. Let us know, and we can correct that for you. Thanks! mailto:JeanZartner@Selfnurture.com
PRIVACY STATEMENT: We will not sell or give your contact information to anyone without your permission. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Need a Laugh? We found these "Deep Thoughts" circulating through cyberspace:
If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station...
I thought about how mothers feed their babies with little tiny spoons and forks, so I wonder what Chinese mothers use...toothpicks?
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the OTHERS here for?
Ever wonder what the speed of lightning would be if it didn't zigzag?
How come "abbreviated" is such a long word? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (((((((((((((( Website News ))))))))))))))

"I like two kinds of men: domestic and foreign." - Mae West
"When I'm tired of shopping - I sit down and try on shoes." - from a decorative plaque in a Petaluma, California, store
"Let us read and let us dance - two amusements that will never do any harm to the world." - Voltaire
"Be yourself - Nobody does it better." - from a magnet I bought at a truck stop in Nebraska
"Did you say 'Thanks' today?" - bumper sticker
"Chastising yourself is like playing leapfrog with a unicorn." - from a friend who is a security guard/philosopher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Tools to Lose the Being Single Blues
I'm preparing an eReport by the above title. What's an "eReport," you ask? - "e" means I can send it by eMail - "Report" means it's longer than a typical article You can purchase it from: http://www.Selfnurture.com/excerpts-singles-self-esteem.htm (The money goes toward maintaining the website.)
These tools are:
- Building self-esteem
- Personal mission
- Common mission
- Friendship with yourself
- Friendship with others
- Logical self-talk
- Music
- Touch
- Humor
- Hobbies
- Gratitude
In this - and upcoming eZines - we'll feature tips from one or two of these tools.
*** FEATURED TOOL
Moment-to-Moment Living
My chiropractor and I were discussing how beautiful autumn is. I told him it was my favorite season. He said he'd have trouble deciding between Fall and Spring. Then he thought about it a minute and decided that his favorite season would be whichever one he's in. I felt embarrassed. Here I am telling people how to be self-nurturing - and he showed me up with a simple, yet profound, attitude of living in the moment.
*** FEATURED TOOL
Logical Self-Talk
One example of Logical Self-Talk: Instead of having an OLD habit, saying (either aloud or to yourself), "I hate being single", create a NEW habit, saying, "There are things I enjoy about being single." Of course, to truthfully say that, you have to think of things you enjoy. To get you started, look at "Specific Upsides of Being Single." You'll find it listed on the Uplifting Excerpts page: http://www.Selfnurture.com/excerpts-singles-self-esteem.htm Here's another example: Instead of saying, "I don't have enough time to do self-nurturing things," create a NEW habit, saying, "I'll find something to let go of so I have some free time." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. A Reader's Experience
On a more spiritual level - but still using Logical Self-Talk - here's a letter we received from one of our readers: (Here's what she sent...) I was silently arguing with myself about my current situation. I'm overweight and without a lifemate, and I wondered why some other people I knew seemed more fortunate than myself. I asked myself the question, "If God loves us all equally, then why do I not have my true heart's desire, and that is a loving mate?" My inner voice answered me: "Your TRUE heart's desire is to love yourself as God loves you." That answer surprised me! My inner voice further added: "On a spiritual level you already love yourself unconditionally as the precious spirit that you are. You are now learning to bring this unconditional spiritual love, into your conscious awareness. That is what is meant by the prayer term that it be done 'on earth as it is in heaven.' As you journey into this more loving awareness, of yourself and others, you are overcoming negative thoughts." Jean, your ezine article reminded me of this experience, because it talked about overcoming self put-downs, comparisons, self-doubt and negative judgements about oneself. (Editor's Note: See LINK to Sally's excerpt) Love & bright blessings in spirit! Mindy Sawyer Editor's note: Thanks to Mindy for her permission to share this deeply personal experience with other readers. Visit Mindy's website at: http://www.ahposters.com She sells cool posters, fine art prints, and funny magnets at discount prices. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ((((((((((((((((( Funny Signs )))))))))))))))))
This sign was in the dining room of a Bed and Breakfast in Allenspark, Colorado: "No Sniveling" And this one was in a cafe just down the street: "If you are grouchy, irritable, or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you." So before you take a trip to this gorgeous little mountain town - check your "pleasantness quotient"! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Worthy Web Pages
Ché Rippinger creates 32 new "Touché!" Cartoons each month - several of which are about dating! I was so excited to find a site with funny - and tasteful - cartoons about being single! Her web site is www.ToucheToon.com , with single panel comics, info about the artist, and links. If you want to go directly to the new comics each month (the first 12 of which revolve around relationships + one at the end), go to: http://www.touchetoon.com/comics.htm If you've missed any cool toons, you can check out the great archives section. Ché also offers a bimonthly humor e-zine with fun stuff to perk up your day (by e-mail request: ToucheToon@aol.com ). Editor's Note: One reason Ché's site impresses me is that humor is one of my favorite "Tools to Lose the Being Single Blues." ( http://www.Selfnurture.com/excerpts-singles-self-esteem.htm ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. As Promised.... (continued from last newsletter) In the final issue of the print newsletter, we promised that two articles would appear in the Sept/Oct issue. Since we changed to the eZine format, we link directly to the Uplifting Excerpts page where they appear: http://www.Selfnurture.com/excerpts-singles-self-esteem.htm
In "The Restless Boy - A Parable for Success," Saleem Rana presents 20 ways to help improve the world, starting with yourself.
In "Dance As If No One Were Watching (Especially Your Inner Critic)," Sally Young gives you ideas for overcoming that pesky self-doubt. If, after you read an excerpt, you would like the whole article, order it from our . (The money helps maintain the website.) http://www.Selfnurture.com/online-catalog.htm
*** We'd also promised more on "The Amazing Chi Machine." Rita Hyland, a Chi Machine user and distributor, has provided the following information: Effortless Exercise The Chi Machine was developed by experts in oxygenating exercise and physiology. Its technology incorporates a precise oscillating action that harmonizes with your natural body rhythms. Testimonials have included claims of the following: elimination of dizziness following workouts, aid in lymphatic drainage, pain alleviation, improved circulation, increased energy, weight loss, elimination of insomnia, improved digestion, and more! All of these benefits are a function of the oxygenation of the body with the associated raising of the chi or life force. After a few minutes on the Chi Machine, you can feel the "tingling" throughout your body and you can imagine the oxygen traveling through your blood stream bringing with it healing chi. In our busy lives there is surely time for "chiing" on a daily basis - the benefits are rewarding. You owe it to yourself! Editor's Note: For more information or to order your own Chi Machine, mailto:JeanZartner@Selfnurture.com , and we'll forward your request to Rita. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6.
